When Our Heart Breaks

Falling Apart

04well_miscarriage-tmagArticle

Something seems to be in the air this fall, it seems like everywhere I look someone I care about seems to be dealing with heartache of some manner.  I recently took a beautiful yoga class at NYC’s Laughing Lotus, the teacher paraphrased a quote from the Village Voice he had read years back, “Our hearts are meant to break over and over in order to be opened up and make more room for new love.” Heartache can come in many shades, failed relationships, miscarriages, deaths of family, friends, pets.  I group all these instances together, because in any case our heart breaks, we lose something we love and life never seems to be the same.  But the good thing is it does go on and although there is always this absence, life is beautiful and new loves and possibilities continue to bloom.  My heart goes out to all those struggling at the moment. I wanted to share some smart and beautiful stories and advice to mending the broken heart. Below are some links if you are in the stage of wanting to heal and are up for some reading.  They are good reads even if life seems to be moving forward at the moment, to remind us of what our friends may be going through at their moment of despair and how to help them along the way.

I wanted to share the lyrics and a link to a song I add to many of my yoga playlists.

Jon McLaughlin, ‘We all need a little saving

Come on, come on, you have got to move on

This is not the you I know
This isn’t real, it’s just all you can feel
And that’s the way that feelings go
And whether or not it’s right or wrong
You’ll do what you will do

When the cloud in the sky starts to pour
And your life is just a storm you’re braving
Well, don’t tell yourself you can’t lean on someone else
‘Cause we all need saving sometimes

Say what you will but the time that we fill
While we’re on the earth
Should not be alone, we were meant to be known
You make me what I’m worth
But I can’t keep you from yourself
You’ll do what you will do

When the cloud in the sky starts to pour
And your life is just a storm you’re braving
Well, don’t tell yourself you can’t lean on someone else
‘Cause we all need saving

I don’t know why it has to be this way
And I don’t know the cure
But please believe someone
Has felt this before

When the cloud in the sky starts to pour
And your life is just a storm you’re braving
Well, don’t tell yourself you can’t lean on someone else
‘Cause we all need saving
We all need saving sometimes, sometimes
