Christmas, New York and an Anniversary

39 Years and Counting

I love being in a city for the holidays.  It was the only time living in New York I could tolerate the massive crowds of tourists. The hustle and bustle make it seem even mores festive.  I just arrived back yesterday from New York, to a very snowy Michigan.  We were celebrating my parents 39th anniversary and doing a little Christmas shopping.

We started off with lunch and a few celebratory drinks a Balthaazar in Soho and a little Soho shopping.

Then onto the Carlisle Hotel…for more drinks.  This is one of my favorite places to visit during Christmas.  The Carlisle is like stepping into Gossip Girl, very wealthy people actually live in the hotel, and around the holidays it’s beautifully decorated, the bar is great for holiday cocktails and piano music.  Pete took me there for Christmas when we first started dating. We closed it down and as we were the only ones still finishing our drinks around 1 a.m., an older woman who lived there came down for her night cap and to read the paper.  Make sure to get there on the early side, after 9:30 there is a cover and it’s pretty pricey and if you close  it down like Pete and I did, you’ll quickly find out that the UES closes down at night and there are NO cabs!

For dinner we went to Beatrice Inn a underground restaurant in the West Village.  It’s a typical New York tiny restaurant and gets packed full of people.  They do have a cozy fireplace which made it great for this time of year!

One final toast before ending the night.  A holiday party in Soho!! Happy 39 years mom and dad!
